Dometic, a maker of refrigerators, is facing a defective products class action lawsuit alleging the fridges can spontaneously ignite on boats and RVs.
According to the complaint, the refrigerators have caused or contributed to at least 3,000 fires since 1997, resulting in more than $100 million in property damage and personal injury claims. Further, the suit states that Dometic tracked the claims but “failed and refused to eliminate the defects and/or provide consumers with adequate warnings.”

The class action, which includes five individual RV plaintiffs, states the plaintiffs believe that 1.5 million RVs and boats in the country are equipped with “defective gas absorption refrigerators.”Defective Products Legal HelpIf you or a loved one has suffered similar damages or injuries, please fill in the form to the right and your complaint will be sent to an accidents lawyer who may evaluate your claim at no cost or obligation.

The first Dometic we had was made in Sweden. Worked great for many, many years.
Died of old age.

The 2nd, made in the USA: the electronic board had a defect and right past warranty date, fridge stopped working on gas.

The 3rd, and current one we own, made in USA, was less than 2 years old when we noticed it was draining the batteries: heater/defroster was ON all the time.

Called the company: "Just turn off the switch"

Problem is THEY FORGOT to put a switch !!!

We had to cut a wire to stop defroster . That wire controls inside light too, so, we often have to use a flashlight !!!

The problem with a company like that is they got you by the b..ls.
Fridge is in a cabinet, not much choice but to go back to them.

And the heater/defroster ON all the time may qualify as possible cause of fire.

So this is more like a "be ready for the settlement notice"; not at the File a Claim stage yet. Unless I am missing something?
