What happens when MVNO goes away?

This is not about R+. I'm asking about Red Pocket or Mint Sim that offer 12 months of prepaid service for $199 or so. What happens if you buy one of these with a credit card? Is there recourse if these companies go away? Ptel went away after 15 years and left a lot of people stranded. I wasn't a subscriber, so I have no first hand experience.

What happens? You get stranded...

Typically you have a short time to port your number out so you don't loose your number. The MVNO devices are typically locked but they will unlock them to be able to use them on other carriers.

Or they can go Sunrocket on you.
