I recently went to Sears (I've been visiting them far more often lately than I used to in order to burn SYW points since we've finally lost our last Kmart) in an otherwise busy mall in my area. The other anchor stores in the mall were relatively busy and the parking outside of the stores were full... Dick's Sporting Goods, Von Maur, and even Macy's. Normally when I go to Sears, I park near Dick's and work my way over to Sears. This time, I instead decided to drive straight over to Sears. The parking lot had zero cars in it on one side. Went to the other side and there were a bunch of brand new Fords that had just been assembled at the Ford assembly plant that were parked and waiting to be taken to wherever. I assumed something must be going on with Sears, maybe they had just abruptly given up and closed and I hadn't heard about it. Nope. Just not a single customer in there. Actually, I couldn't find a single employee either. But they were definitely open. But they're apparently not doing badly enough to make this list.

while they didn't technically close the closest store to me, it used to be 2 full floors in a HUGE building, now it is half of 1 floor and the rest of the space is rented out to other retailers...

I recently read about a Kmart that they are doing something like this with, splitting off half the store and Kmart keeping the other half... and it wasn't even a very large Kmart store to begin with. The way they're doing it is by getting rid of the jewelry counter, a significant amount of groceries, the pharmacy, the garden center, and (I think, though it is possible it closed long ago and is just an empty area that you can tell used to be a Little Caesars as is found in a lot of Kmart stores) the Little Caesars. I knew they did it with the Super Kmart stores (there is actually just one remaining Super Kmart in the entire country now, which is something that has sort of gone under the radar) a few years ago, but this is the first time I've heard them doing it with a normal Kmart

Eddie is almost done destroying an American institution.

Apparently suppliers are not coming through on orders for fear of not getting paid.  The stores are half empty.

When Sears owns, not rents, a large property, and the store is doing OK, they lease out part of the store for extra earnings.

A Sears manager told me they have good goldmine stores, and many stinkers, and the company has been too slow getting rid of the stinkers.

Ford announces 10% firing of white color workers....Carrier announces moving 300+ jobs to Mexico....JC Penny closing stores...HhGreg closing all stores....Macy's closing hundreds of stores....WOW...Trump said we would get "tired of winning"...you can meet these "winners" at the unemployment offices in line.

Today's headline: Sears is closing 72 more stores Goes without saying but if you have SYW points I would use them up sooner than later.

Here's a list of the closing stores, which was obtained by Business Insider. Most of the stores will close in September.Sears did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The closures will bring Sears' store count to about 1,200, down from 2,073 five years ago.
