To mathfaster below: I see your point, but there's a flaw here. If you are getting an update on an expired thread, that's a problem on it's own. There's something wrong with the way you have your notifications set up, or the way they work. An expired thread just shouldn't send out a notification.

Most annoying is the Master Clearance thread where this happens all the time. Just green the OP so the rest of us don't have to get notification of a thread update.
