Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II Refurbished | Canon Online Store Disclaimer
This telephoto zoom lens is designed with Canon's Optical Image Stabilizer technology while retaining compactness and lightness, in response to demands of photographers. This high zoom ratio lens is equivalent to a focal length of 88-400mm in the 35mm format (when used on Canon EOS cameras compatible with EF-S lenses), and the image stabilizer effect equivalent to a shutter speed about 4 stops faster than the same size lens without Image Stabilizer. In other words, if the slowest shutter speed you could formerly hold a 250mm lens steadily was 1/250th of a second, with Canon's 4-stop stabilization correction, you could hand-hold at shutter speeds as slow as 1/15th of a second. It also uses a UD-glass lens element to correct chromatic aberration for excellent image quality throughout the zoom range. This new EF-S telephoto lens with great features delivers excellent performance at an affordable price for all photographers.
Warranty is 1 year USA like new.
Add Tax (if applicable) and shipping was $5.
Was looking at the Shnoop deal, but it's an imported version, so likely no USA warranty.

Recommend including "Refurbished" in the title. Can be a deal breaker for some.

Is this a good lens for taking pictures of the kiddos playing sports?

The 70-300mm will be better, although I can't say how it performs on moving subjects. A lot of that has to do with the camera body, whether it has cross-type AF points, and how many.

I do not own this lens, but based on the spec .... This lens has limitations, but if you use it for outdoor sports during the day, I do not see why not. Of course, AF speed of this lens is not fast (Non-USM), but should be fine most of the time as long as there are enough light.
What the frick's - wrong with people?????

Most people won't know the difference between this and 70-300 for most sports. 70-300's faster USM will give an edge for faster action sports. Just pre-focus on your subject (press shutter half way and hold) and get ready to shoot. You're likely to be at 5.6 aperature and you'll have plenty of depth of field to play with. Set at 5.6, then adjust your ISO to get at least 1/500th to 1/800th of a second shutter speed (depending on what action you're trying to stop). For a 'pose', ie: a pitcher just before the windup, you can get away with slower shutter speeds. If you can't get a fast shutter by ISO 1600 (3200 on newer cameras), it's too dark out.
