They say it works without a c wire for constant power which is true, but that means it will run off batteries. Sometimes your furnace or wiring will support a c wire but it may have never been hooked up, so don't assume it's not there.

Consumers Energy in Michigan offers $50 MIR for Wi-Fi thermostats for people who have them, not as good but still helps. 

I have this thermostat and love it. There were some issues with the app awhile back but those were fixed and its rock solid now.
