I clicked on the link, and the price I see is $599.

I wonder how the operating cost is compared to an oil fired water heater?
Here in Conn. we have some of the highest electric rates in the country, so I'm cautious of installing something like this. My last bill was 18.6 cents/kwh.

Well, it uses about 1250 kwh per year, so it will cost you about $235 at 19 cents/kwh.  How much do you pay for oil and how much does it cost to service the oil-fired water heater? There is no annual cost to maintain a heat=pump water heater and, depending on where and how you install it, it will give you some free air conditioning, dehumidification or both.

Also, if you are a small household or use little hot water, you might be able to get a time-of-use electricity rate for the water heater ad pay 1/2 or less for off-peak electricity use and program the water heater to operate only during times when electricity is cheap.

I had used one in the SE and installed it in my garage. It works great in the summer when the outside temp. is high. However, when it's cold in the winter (even in SE), it's not as efficient. I have to switch it to electric mode. I don't think I would recommend it if you are in the northern US unless you don't mind an "electric" water heater in the winter months.

if this is like the one they have/had at Lowes, it won't just save you money on electricity to heat the water - depending on your environment, this could also keep your garage moderately cool in the summer in the southern climates like in AZ - I had a coworker say that it kept his garage cooler than the ambient temp outside AND keeping the temps in the room immediately adjacent to the garage as well as the rooms upstairs above the garage cooler than if it were 120+ degrees in the garage - but take that with a grain of salt - it's hard to totally quantify that - if I weren't moving in to a rental I'd totally have bought this - but not until I could fina a 10% off coupon!
