What a weird promo.

Let H&R Block help you calculate your 2016 taxes! If the result is not what you expected, we're not saying 'run' is an option, but...

Depending on whether you can get a federal refund (and how big it is), you may be better off buying from Amazon and getting the 10% refund bonus as an Amazon gift card.

Note the version you linked to doesn't include the state taxes so assuming you'd have to file state taxes too and would want the software you'd end up spending a bunch extra for the state software and even more if you wanted to efile state taxes. The deluxe + state is currently the same price as the Newegg deal.
Also the 10% extra back from your refund is NOT handled by Amazon directly but by a third party and I've seen past reports of them being problematic/slow.

The Deluxe + State version is $29.99 on Amazon, so you'd have to have to have more than a $200 federal refund to make up the difference.

Both that one and the one in the OP include a single state return and neither includes the efile fee for the state return (an additional $19.99).
Problems/delays were reported by a small number of people versus the millions of successful refunds.

Yes, but there's quite a bit of money at stake. Google some of the issues online. This has been going on for years. Your entire refund could disappear into a black hole, and nobody can find it.
Your Amazon GC could disappear as well. Everybody washes their hands of the problem and points fingers at another company.
For a 10% return, the risk is fairly high, it seems. I'd rather buy junk bonds or risky stocks.

It works but have to pay $20 at the end for e-file state tax. There are no options to avoid it if you choose e-filing the federal.

Not sure what you mean - but if you meant that if you e-file Federal with H&R Block Deluxe plus State that you can't then do a paper filing of the state return, that is incorrect.  I have been doing that for years, actually.  I doubt it has changed this year.  Anyway, this year I snagged a deal for free state e-file so I won't have to print/mail anything for a change!

Exactly. I just mailed my state return yesterday after efiling my federal with H&R Block, so ahallfatwallett is incorrect.
