Based on Jerosen's comment, below, I'm removing my post, as the correct Amazon review numbers contain too small a quantity of reviews to be worth much.

Still a great price for someone willing to try it.

I've had great luck with Brother LASER printers, but not yet tried an inkjet. I was holding out for the similarly rated Canon MX922, current best price $79.99 at Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AVWKUJS/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I341RO7ALNCV6B&colid=2OD98POEE4NTL), but at half the price, may have to give the Brother a try.

If you go for this, a 3-pack of knock-off ink at Amazon is only $23.50 (https://www.amazon.com/Inkjetcorner-Replacement-Cartridges-MFC-J460DW-MFC-J480DW/dp/B01I2XN2CY/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1495810228&sr=8-6&keywords=MFC-J485DW+ink)

  yes. thanks

I have had this printer for a couple years now and it is worth every penny of $39.99! Cheap ink compared to other brands and even cheaper if you get no-name brands on eBay, Amazon, etc. It is reliable, stays on my network consistently, iOS air-print capable, etc. I recommend it!

Thanks OP was close to buying ink for my old HP Officejet

Can someone confirm if the power input supports ~220V or just ~110V? Thx

I've had this printer at home for several years and it's been great. I almost always buy Brother lasers for work and this is a nice inkjet. For sure, worth $40.

I have this printer as well, at least two years now, and it has been trouble free unlike the two Epson inkjets I had before it.

I have the 475DW.  Could not be happier with it.

LOL I had all you guys beat. I am still rocking my Brothers MFC-J430W. with the ink that came with the printer still sealed in its packaging. Purchased the printer along with ~$1 no name ink of eBay and printer is still running strong.

I currently see the below ratings for the Brother MFC-J485DW printer on Amazon, and it's lower rated than your numbers:
(Note, my initial search for this printer resulted in a 2nd link to a different printer - the Brother MFC-J460DW).
POSITIVE: 44% (range 4+5)
NEGATIVE: 43% (range 1+2)
TAKE OR LEAVE: 13% (range 3)

-Is my math or eyesight going?

I think you got the right one.  MFC-J485DW is 44% & 43% ratings in the 3-5 and 1-2 range.

Similar printer J480DW is :
https://www.amazon.com/Brother-MFC-J480DW-All-One-Replenishment/...

Thats the one with 67% in the 4-5 star level.

However J485DW has only 23 reviews so thats a relatively small sample.   Seems mostly complaints of wifi issues or that it won't print B&W when out of color.

How easily can we get cheap generic ink toners for this one?

I've had multiple Brother printers over the years, and the laser ones have performed fantastic (and still kicking!) to this day.

That being said, the Inkjets will clog on you if you don't use them often. Cheap ink is great, but you gotta keep the print head cleaned often to prevent clogging over time. Once the print head clogs up, it's a 50/50 if you can clean it with solution (through using a syringe) or having to toss the unit. Replacement print heads always cost more or equal to the initial cost of the printer.
