Time to return the 8TB WD drive from BB (posted the other day):

The one in the OP is a better deal (especially for those who don't get charged sales tax from Newegg).

Good thing about the 8GB Easystore is that it was often found to contain a WD Red drive, rather than one of the less expensive Blue or Green drives, so well worth the extra $10 IMO.  If your 8GB easystore is made in Thailand, it's a keeper (usually).

If the internal drive's model # can be obtained w/o cracking open the enclosure (perhaps by viewing device manager information or using some other diagnostic HD tool), then I agree that the WD RED drive for $10 more ($20+ more after factoring in sales tax) is indeed worth it.

Haven't used it myself, but someone mentioned using DriveDX to confirm the drive inside.  Looks to be a drive monitoring and SMART utility.  Might be worth trying, but I think most drive utils will probably give you the model number... as long as they work with USB hard drives.

don't forget this seagate is SMR so writes will be slower compared to conventional drives such as WD.

Plus, I used $25 gift cards from the 4TB deal at BB the week before.

1 year warranty on this Seagate drive compared to 2 years on the WD drive. The WD drive is a much better value.
