Har! I read a review on the 3/8" one titled "Really?", and evidently there is no way to *pre-set* any desired torque--the display only reads out the current torque applied. Not always convenient, unless your neck can extend out around obstacles. Kobalt responded to this 1-star review that included the following:

We'd like you to know we've redesigned this torque wrench, which will be in stores at the end of August 2017. We hope you'll take a look at item 856839 when it arrives in your local store.

  Kind of the point: The clearance models in the original post lack any torque pre-set ability. The newer, improved (and more expensive) models have this ability.

First time I have ever seen a digital torque wrench that did not allow a preset!!! Wonder what genius thought up that one.
