Thank you for posting this as I missed the original OP. In for 5. (wouldn't let me do 7)

My total for the the trail mix and the Fire 8 Kids tablet (FIRE8KIDS) is coming to $101.34, because the tablet price is starting at $129.99 and not $89.99 (described in DoctorOfCredit).  If I use the Fire 8 HD non-kids, I get a similar problem, it shows $79.99 and not $49.99.

I tried going directly to Amazon and going through the AMEX benefits Amazon link.  What link are you guys following to see the discounted base prices?  When I use the direct link shown in the DofC article, I get the message    Thank you for your interest in this offer. Unfortunately, you are not eligible for this offer.so maybe this is directed.

It was supposed to a targeted offer but it worked for me and I was not targeted.
Try unlinking and linking again your Amex MR points card to your account and make that card a default payment option..

Maybe that's the problem.  I just enrolled today, perhaps it needs a little time... though it did find my points just fine.
Thanks, I'll try.

works with Amazon Elements (for vitamins).  Limited selection, but hey, still free.  Seems to be one package free (up to $x).

I put Vit K ($15) and D ($10), and it only discounted $10.  When I removed Vit D, my discount was $15.

Nice write-up OP.  I followed your steps and it worked great.

Amazon will cancel orders for more than one of each model.  Amex allows up to five discounts, but the limit on the Amazon discount is one.
Per Amazon TOC's:

  • Offer limited to one per customer and account.

I found this out the hard way.

i got my HD8 today, probably flipping it and keeping previous gen with gyro. I don't think there are any significant improvements in new one.

Could not get the AMEX offer even after I applied some points

That's right. Only 10 inch tablet is going to be new. Not these.
aftvnews said: Amazon just released new versions of their Fire 7 tablet and Fire HD 8 tablet in June of this year, so it’s very unlikely this new tablet is a replacement for either of those models. This new tablet is most likely a successor to Amazon ’s flagship tablet, the Fire HD 10.

Interesting... Those are the AMEX Terms and Conditions.  If you pull them from the details link on the product page on Amazon, it says only one.  I tried to order 5 and got an order cancellation email the next day.  Basically, you can get the Amex discount 5 times, but the Amazon discount only once.

  • Offer expires at 11:59 p.m. (PT) 09/16/17.

  • Offer limited to one per customer and account.

  • Offer may not be combined with other offers.

  • Amazon reserves the right to modify or cancel the offer at any time.
  • Offer is non-transferable and may not be resold.
  • Offer discount will be allocated proportionally among all promotional items in your order.
  • If any of the products or content related to this offer are returned, your refund will equal the amount you paid for the product or content, subject to applicable refund policies.
  • If you violate any of these terms, the offer will be invalid.
  • Unless an Amazon Gift Card is the stated benefit of the promotion, promotional codes (including those placed directly in accounts) may not be redeemed for Amazon Gift Cards.

  • Offer only applies to products sold by Amazon. com or Amazon Digital Services LLC (look for "sold by Amazon. com" or "sold by Amazon Digital Services LLC" on the product detail page). Products sold by third-party sellers or other Amazon entities will not qualify for this offer, even if "fulfilled by Amazon. com" or "Prime Eligible".
  • Offer does not apply to digital content.
  • Offer good while supplies last.
  • Shipping charges and taxes may apply to the full value of discounted and free promotional items.
  • Items must be purchased in a single order and shipped at the same speed to a single address.
  • This offer is available to Prime members only.

That's odd.
My friend already got 5 and five more are on the way (shipped).

Without prying into your personal life, how much do you stare at the lock screen on your devices (where Amazon puts its unobtrusive ads)?

This got even better.
You can actually order 5 tablet of each color since each color has different SKU
MtM said: It was originally thought that you could only purchase a total of 5 – Fire 7 and 5 – Fire 8 tablets. While this is true to a point it does not take into account the different color each tablet offers (different colors = different SKUs). You can order 5 of each color for each type. The tablets come in black, red, blue, and yellow. So that means you can order a total of 40 Kindle Fire Tablets (20 Fire 7 and 20 Fire 8).

Just have to select the specific card the points are linked to.   Otherwise it is greyed out.

Sooooo, I purchased 4. Instead of 5. Went back and purchased one more. Both orders went through. First one shipped. Now, they cancelled my second one and said I exceeded quantity limits. How?? Because it originally allowed me to add 5 to the cart. But not more. I'm pretty sure 4+1=5. Plus if I was outside my limits why, when I placed a second order would it still give me the discount?!?!? Now I'm annoyed Bc the order should have been for 5. And not 4. And I didn't modify the original one Bc it did in fact allow me to just place another one! I got an email requesting feedback as to why I exceeded the limits. Does anyone happen to have a screenshot of the 5 limit language that I could point to? Now that I already made the purchase, the promo no longer show up for me. Thanks.

I just did this.  You can specify in dollars how much points to use, so just put 0.01 at the checkout.

I wanted to use these for a business setting. Ads on the lock screen are cheesy for such an application.

Won't apply the FIRE8TAB coupon - just showing the $25 off prime on the fire8hd with special offers. Am I doing something wrong?

Not able to add my AMEX to Rewards account on Amazon.  Anyone succeed in doing this with an AMEX Blue CashBack card?  I called AMEX and was told NO AMEX card can be linked.  Obviously, she didn't know much about this program and was no help!  Waiting for a manager to call but can take 24-48 hours.
