I searched for this topic before posting, but didn't see anything on it. My Netflix bill increased by a $0.50 "Tax" this month (July 2016). To my knowledge, my state has not enacted legislation requiring tax on online services such as Netflix, nor has my account be subject to any sales or use tax in the past. Netflix customer service could not provide any further information like to whom the tax is being sent or under what state authority the tax is being collected. However, the Netflix representative did give me a FAX number to the Netflix Tax Research Team and suggested I contact them directly for an explanation of the tax. The Netflix representative also encouraged me to post the contact information for the research team online in case others need an explanation for the tax charge. Here is the fax number +1-510-405-9008, Attn: Tax Research Team.

I reviewed my Netflix statements for the past year. I have been taxed all that time. A factor that may (not sure) be a difference between us it there are Netflix operations in my area. I do not know if that operation is Netflix owned or third party contractor. Metro Omaha, Nebraska
Separately, I read there was some federal action to make it easier to apply sales tax to internet actions this past year. I do not recall details. I do know eBay has made changes in their operation to comply with whatever law or regulation changed.
