Received a letter from my current carrier Anthem Blue Cross for a rate increase of 11%. Is this in line with other insurers or I should look for a better deal (possibly from other insurers), rate decrease, etc. (I'm fine with my current 2016 Anthem Blue Cross premium amount.)

If you received a subsidy, the increase means nothing. Other taxpayers and I will pick up the 11% increase for you.

If you do not receive a subsidy, just wait until November 1st and premiums for all carriers will be displayed at the Covered Ca website.

Always shop. Nothing to lose other than a little time.

11% is probably pretty low compared to a lot.  Mine is going up 47%.

It all depends on the local market.

KFF looked at several large markets :

Rate changes expected for 2017 in Los Angeles were supposed to be 3% average for the cheapest silver plan.

I think bluegreenturtle lives in Portland where the average hike is 26%.

Portland is the 2nd worst.

9% was the average hike they saw across the 17 cities.

Nobody said that.

I said the average hike in Portland is 26%.

Portland specific rate hikes:
http://dfr.oregon.gov/public-resources/healthrates/Documents/app...
(note thats just 40 year old single non smokers)

The average rate increase cited there is 25%

Moda and Providence bronze plans are up 43% and 42% respectively.    bluegreenturtle may have one of those.

OTOH Healthnet is up 9%, PacificSource up 12-14%.

OP, here is some data for CA:

Says state wide increase is 13%. You can also find your region of CA and see what your areas average rate change is.

A lot of people aren't so good with the ol' reading comprehension, Jer.  Yup - Providence.  I'll probably get something else.  I can take the premiums off my schedule C but that only takes the sting out a little bit - no subsidies and we just squeaked by on the max AGI this year for the kids insurance - $50 under.  I may run out of deductions soon - I seem to be making too much money lately.  Still pondering trying to figure out how to S corp and get small group rates as they are a bit more stable, and to force personal AGI down, but they took away the ability to get small group rates without hiring a non-family member a couple years ago.
