I want to open a traditional IRA for spouse ($5500 for 2016) as her workplace doesnt offer 401k yet and our combined income is less than the threshold.Initially I thought will open with Merril Edge as we have a joint BOA checking and I have a roll over IRA too there (platinum access).I chatted with ME rep and he said to open an account separately and after approval link it to my exisiting userid. Is there a better option for this IRA?

How about Wealthfront/Betterworks/Wisebanyan or any robo advisors?I'm looking at minimum fees and good options to invest. Any new member bonus?

Appreciate your inputs.

If you want Investment options with low fees (in particular Index funds) - seek no further than Vanguard.

If you want more options (that typically come with higher fees) then you would obviously need to seek elsewhere - Fidelity comes to mind.

Merrill Edge may make sense if you qualify for Platinum Honors for the juicy credit card rewards. Otherwise, Vanguard is cheaper and therefore better.
