CitiBank online Credit Line Increase credit check

I apologize to the repost police or whatever. I did a quick search but didn't find this.

I did my usual "Request Credit Line Increase" when logged into my Citibank credit card account. I was expecting the usual "please fill out this form blah blah". Instead, I got back an immediate rejection. In the text, it even said it checked with TransUnion, and I'd be receiving a confirmation in the mail. WTF? Before, there would at least be one more step to fill out the form, and then it would do the credit check.

In the past, I either got that form or the automated increase. Has anyone else tried in the past couple of weeks? I did this about 2 days ago.

theres some discussion of the recent changes weve notices with the CLI request here

http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/messageview.php?catid=52&threadid=525330&highlight_key=y&keyword1=&lastpage=1

I used to always get the "long form" asking for income , employment, etc. Now it just immediately told me to contact CSR for status of request.

heres the main CLI thread

There was no check with Transunion. If you read it carefully, it stated that the information was taken from PAST reports/information on file and that no credit check was done.

GeorgyMcFly said: Has anyone else tried in the past couple of weeks? I did this about 2 days ago.

I just did one about 2 minutes ago.

I was given an auto-increase of $1,600.00 and accepted it.

I just tried for 2 att universal cards - one that has about 75% utilization right now , they wanted long form

one with 0 balance, said to contact CSR about status of request

ive never received an auotmated increase offer! you lucky bastages

Out of my 4 Citi cards, 3 all received auto CLI, with the forth (and coincidentally? the last one I tried) being instantly denied with the verbage I mentioned above about Transunion.

On one of my Citi account I got an automatic increase, on 2 accounts I got the long form, and on the last one I got a rejection with a TransUnion pull. I later checked my TransUnion history, and it turned out that they pulled a soft inquiry for "account review" purposes.

Thanks. I will admit I skimmed the message rather quickly because I was shocked that it seemed that they did a hard pull with TransUnion. Although, the response was pretty instantaneous (couldn't have checked with TU that fast.. but could have with their internal data). However, it may be like you said (based on PAST reports).

My current CL is $5,300 (or so). I have received auto online CLIs before. It "seems" that there's some magic internal # (formula) which they won't pass. In my case, I'm guessing around $5k.

In general, most of my other issuers (MBNA, Providian, Chase, etc) all give me 5 digit credit lines. I guess Citi is more conservative.

am i the only one getting just the direction to call CSR, with NO information at all?

didYOUsearch said: am i the only one getting just the direction to call CSR, with NO information at all?

I have 2 cards with Citi. One card I went to the credit limit increase section and all I had to do was click "yes" for the increase as I was "automatically approved."

The next card I attempted the same thing, call the csr.

didYOUsearch said: am i the only one getting just the direction to call CSR, with NO information at all?

I get the same thing, except AAdvantage card (long form) and new cards ("need to keep open for six months" message).

You are flagged.

probably. at least restricted from increasing exposure with them, considering i have close to six figures outstanding just on otrer citi lines.

i had reallocated most of the CL to these 0% citi cards and was hoping i could increase the CL of the remaining cards that were left with a small cl

I would have to disagree. Citi is more than willing to give 5 digit credit lines. On this weeks increase, one card went from $9000 to $11,400 and the other from $9500 to $11,300, all on an auto CLI.

Thanks for the tip! Citi is going crazy. Automatic CLI of $2000 to 15500 on an account with a large balance (the result of a 0% BT offer). My wife got an automatic CLI of $1200 to raise her new account's limit to $5000. I got the long form when trying automatic CLI on my oldest account (which also has the lowest limit of the 3 cards).

on 2 cards I got "Please call customer service to get the status of your request"
one card had BT, one was used heavily in the past 9 month (driver's edge 5%)

Update: Called to get the status - both requests denied

one one card I got instant increase for $1K (card with $1K CL used for grocery shopping only)

on 4th card(unused universal card with $1K CL) I got:

I get the exact same prompt. Pulled my TU a few days after the req, no hard pull.

Haven't tried calling CSR, but don't want to draw any attention at this point, given I have BTs on two of my other citi cards (both at 69% of 5-figure CL). BTW an online CLI request on those two accts returned the usual long form. Also have a 4th citi with minimal utilization and high CL.

On the $30K Citi card that is maxed out with a 0% BT, I received a rejection saying that my payments to them are too small (duuh!). On the $2K Citi card I received an automatic $1,800 increase. On the third Citi card, I also got an automatic $1K increase.

geo123, do you only pay the minimum payment due? perhaps consider paying a few $$ over the minimum (seems "pays more than minimum" is a factor some use)

I got an automatic increase on a maxed out line @ 1.99% for life.

Too bad sometimes it seems as though there is no correlation between increases/rejections.

What is your CL and what was the amount of increase?

I got the call CSR message too. Called them and they told me request was denied.

I have only had this card since November, and the last time I tried the CLI button I just got a "wait 6 months" message. But I read on another forum that some people were getting CLIs at 2-3 months, so I figured it wsa worth another shot. Weird that I didn't just get the wait 6 mos message. I think I'll look again after it statements since I just paid off the card and it had about 70% util on a BT.

Has anyone that called the CSR been approved for a CLI?

Customer service quality at Citi has gone done the drain. They made 2 stupid mistakes in my accounts in the last 2-3 months. I requested they close one account, instead another one was closed. Stupid errors like that.

I got a CLI on a card I've only had for 5 months. Previously I've received the "wait 6 months message." I think they're just lightening up on CLIs overall.

Of course I got the form on my other 2 Citi cards...

EDIT: Here's the breakdown of my Citi cards

1) mtvU - had for 5 months, combined 2 into 1 for a $2500 limit in November. Got the form (didn't fill it out)

2) dividend student - Had the card since 4/05, just started using it 11/05. Increase from $1500 to $2000 last month. Got the form (didn't fill it out)

3) driver's edge student - Had the card for 5 months, haven't put over $30 on the card in 3 months. Instant CLI from $700 to $1500.

I just got the automatic increase ($750) on a ATT Universal card with no CR pull and the usual form for a Citi Diamond.

Thanks, McFly. I did it and got an auto-increase.

I also want to say that I had a positive experience with Citi's customer service. I mangled a payment and it would have processed later than the due date (my error). I called Citi before the due date and they extended the due date and waived any late fees. Very helpful!

Anyone know how often you can do this?

I've tried about once every few months. If you try more often, do you get flagged?

Hmmm both of my accounts received the long form. One account is only three months old, the other is a few years old.

I got a $1600 increase as well, from $9000 to $10600.

vwbugman69 said: Too bad sometimes it seems as though there is no correlation between increases/rejections.yeah, the only thing that seems consistent is that if it tells you to call CSR , its denied

I have three citi accounts. Got an instant $1200 increase on the newest one (just over 6 months with a 5-digit CL), a long form on my most heavily used one, and a decline quoting "payment is low on one or more account(s) with us" on my oldest card.

12.6L -> 14.6K (2K increase).

I should add that I'm making (min+$5) payments.. but didnt get the low payments message.

didYOUsearch said: am i the only one getting just the direction to call CSR, with NO information at all?Nope...happening to me too.

My mom and dad's lines were qualified for increases of $750, $750, $750, $750, and $1300, however.

And then use that newly available credit to make BTs to all of your other cards to satisfy monthly minimum payment requirements.

I have 1 citi account with a 17k CL that is 5 months old and I clicked the button for first time after reading this thread and they gave me $1800 for grand total of $18800. Thanks for the thread.

I can confirm that since I've reached 25k on one of my cards, I have the long form every time I hit CLI link on the Citi website. But perhaps my total Citi CL is too large... However, there was a period where I was getting instant-CLI on my other card, but not on the one that was 25k... whereas before I was getting CLI on both, but not every month.

dlr3 said: Marquess said: Ever since I hit $25K I always get the form and it costs a hard pull for an increase. Can anyone else confirm that going beyond 25k with Citi requires a hard pull like the Discover Rule?
