***DEAD *** I THINK IT'S A ROCK (rhyming, bedtime, fun, children, kids, short,
[Kindle Edition]

Peter Collier (Author), Cam Craig (Illustrator)

Publication Date: December 23, 2011

11 Reviews [☆☆☆☆.5]

This was my very first story written for children. It is written for a younger (3-4)age group. I feel more comfortable writing for older children, but that doesn't mean it is any less amusing, plus it holds all the values of what I believe a bedtime story should include. When constructed in free unrestricted rhyme, while reading along, children quickly begin to retain portions of each story.
Once the child begins reading independently, these stories act as memory assisting templates to guide the beginning reader through their first reading selections.
The reading successes of a child will fuel additional comprehension activities and help to jump start reading skills that greatly motivate the young reader. The length of this story is designed to be between 5-10 minutes, to act as a short break or bedtime activity.

Featured Recipe: Bourbon, Bacon & Pecan Brownies

6 slices of bacon
2 c all-purpose flour
1 t salt
10 oz dark chocolate, chopped
1/2 c pecans, chopped
2 T unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 c butter
4 eggs
1 c granulated sugar
1/2 c dark brown sugar
3 T bourbon

In medium skillet, cook the bacon until crispy. Reserve 1/4 cup of the bacon fat and set aside. Let bacon cool and chop roughly. Set aside.

Preheat oven to 350° F. Lightly grease bottom of a 9x9-inch baking pan with butter or shortening.

In medium bowl, mix together flour, cocoa powder and salt. Set aside.

In large heatproof bowl set on top of small saucepan of simmering water, melt dark chocolate and butter. Stir constantly, until smooth. Remove from heat and cool slightly.

With electric mixer on medium-low speed, beat eggs, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until frothy (about 1 minute). Beat in melted chocolate mixture, bourbon and reserved bacon fat. Fold in flour mixture and pecans, just until combined.

***DEAD *** Home Buying, Everything You Must Know [Kindle Edition] - was $2.99

Paul E. Hunt Esq. (Author)

Publication Date: March 12, 2011

17 Reviews [☆☆☆☆]

No one can teach you what home you would like to live in, that will be up to you. What I can show you is what homes will increase the most in value. What homes could be gems in the rough that others may not see. How to determine what improvements will increase the value of your investment. Where to find properties which will be the best value. Ways to convince sellers to give you the best price. Which creative techniques you see on late night TV work and which do not.

This book was written with the concept that as a 'soon to be home owner', or 'second home owner', you want to know "Everything You Must Know" but do not want to spend your valuable time studying endless long manuals with information which you will never use. Experts tend to write everything they know rather than what the student is looking for. In plan and easy to understand language we will walk together in fun ways to help you gain the "mindset" of home buying.

Chapter overview:

1. Real Estate, An Investment
Examines other investments to demonstrate the value of money, the expected return on investment and the value of today's money tomorrow.
2. What Is Real Estate?
Discuses the concepts behind property rights and the types of rights which can be purchased.
3. Who Are The players?
Lists the people whom you will be dealing with and what their tasks and responsibilities are in the transfer.
4. Transaction
A step by step example sales transaction showing what is going on behind the scenes.
5. Finding Value
Concepts on value and demographics.
6. Highest And Best Use
Using the approach of increasing value to speculate which properties will increase the most in value, both short term and long term.
7. Finding Properties
Lists innovative ways to find undervalued homes which may be unseen by others.
8. Types Of Deals
Types of contracts to acquire property.
9. Fixer-Uppers
Discuses construction to determine if a home needing repair is worth the cost or if your intent is a short term "flip" whether it will be profitable.
10. Credit
Ways to improve your credit rating to get the lowest possible interest rates.
11. Financing
Types of loans and what clauses have the most influence and how to negotiate for what works in your situation.
12. Creative Financing
Some of the more imaginative and sometimes risky ways that loans have been formulated.

∙ Thomas Jefferson, our third president, spoke six languages, invented many things (the swivel chair and the pedometer, to name two), and designed and built not only Monticello (his rural home) but also the University of Virginia.
∙ Theodore Roosevelt, was one of the nation's great hunters, and the Smithsonian is filled with hundreds of specimens from his safari in Africa. He was also our first environmentalist president, setting aside nearly 200 million acres for national parks and wildlife refuges.

You'll also find a section on "The First Ladies"-short takes on all the presidents' wives. The book ends with a special feature that's just in time for the 2012 election: how a president gets elected.
