ISSUE In the last 30 days, we have been seeing issues with "code already used" errors popping up (all of which were purchased from eBay sellers). To date it has been happening randomly, and only occurring in about 10% of all codes, but lately it's been closer to 50-60% of codes. Unfortunately there is still no known cause or pattern confirmed, but we suspect it's a RB system glitch.
SOLUTION In the meantime all we can do is keep replacing them with new ones. I will TRY to test all codes before they are given out, but due to the sheer volume this will not be possible every time, so it might be more just random checking. Also just because a code is tested today and given to you today, does not guarantee it will work tomorrow, so going forward I strongly suggest you check all codes that are given to you immediately by doing a "test checkout" online (pick any random movie and apply the code, but don't complete the rental).
Thanks for your patience and understanding. BTW my availability has been very limited lately due to work. Best times are early mornings before 9am and nights after 9pm eastern, so please try to contact me then and understand I may not be able to respond at all during the day. Generally more available on the weekends.
I've also always had good luck just chatting with RB customer support if a code is showing already used but I didn't use it - usually they will replace with a credit or new code. And usually within a few minutes.
JW10 said: What is your suggested test procedure to insure not burning the code being tested? Easy.... 1. Go to redbox.com and add any DVD to your cart (does not matter what movie, because you will not be completing the rental) 2. Click Checkout 3. On the checkout page, enter your code and click on "Apply" 4. If code is good, it will show 0.00 for net cost. Stop, you are done. 5. If code is bad, you will get some kind of error message like "invalid code" or "already used". Let your source (ex. eBay seller) know and request a new code 6. Since you are not completing the transaction, the code is still "live" and unused
