I thought the russians used 7.62 did they change caliber.........?

AK-47 = 7.62mm
The AK-74 was made by Kalashnikov (in 1974) to replace the AK-47 after the Soviet Military became convinced the US knew something they didn't when they switched from the M-14 to the M-16. FWIW, Kalashnikov apparently did not agree with this decision and thought that 7.62mm was superior.

Over 800 bucks for an AK? Are they crazy? No way any respectful gun owner would pay that much for an AK...

You need to realize that there is no SGL or SLG model of AK-74. You can search Russian internet for "слг" or "сгл" abbreviations, good luck with that. Actually, Izhmash is not manufacturing AK-74 model at all, the only AK models they make now are:
# 5,45 мм. АК 74М, АК 105
# 5,56 мм. АК 101, АК 102
# 7,62 мм. АК 103, АК 104
AK-74M has a folding stock, has a reinforced muzzle device, dust cover and a side-rail bracket for mounting optics. "The ONLY truly configured AK-74 currently available in the US market" may be an old stock somewhere from Ukraine I'd say, or not Russian. If you a real collector and want a realistic AK-74, you can have the Romanian one - with a wooden stock it is much better "truly configured" than this.
