For IHOP, when did you get receive you b-day e-mail. I though they still give you a free meal with Rooty Tooty Fresh and Fruity for your birthday. They did away with that for the initial sign up.

Yeah, that is clear.  I've complained to the mods about it in the past year, but they don't take those posts down.  I've even reported the posts individually, but no dice.

I have a feeling that somewhere they advertise this thread -- on Faceberk or something -- when they are trying to entice people to sign up for the first time and make their virgin post -- maybe they get entered into a contest or something.

simply stating the name of a restaurant without any further information is not very useful in a thread like this.  did the poster mean that they give free birthday meals?

Offers vary by location but apparently can include a free meal on your birthday with the purchase of another meal.

Yoregano, it's been speculated about before (in this thread, and in a Fatwallet forum thread which I think we both participated in), but I think the reason is what I wrote the other day on a different thread:

"I think that in the FW social media efforts, people are encouraged to sign up and make a post anywhere on the site in order to be entered into a drawing or something.
I assume this is the reason for posts such as "I like free food" and "my birthday is in July" in the birthday freebies thread."
https://www.fatwallet.com/forums/travel-discussion/1402980/m18791...

Since this thread gets more inane comments from newcomers of any FW thread I have seen, maybe this thread might be an "example thread" that FW lists on an internet site or "app" from which they are trying to recruit new sign-ups, or something like that.

I have stopped complaining about meaningless posts because it doesn't do any good. It's a shame that silly posts can stay up, because it degrades the worth of (and legitimate participation in) what can be, to many readers, an informative, money-saving thread.

  Please what?

Please tell me why this thread has the highest concentration of inane posts from new users who never seem to show up on FW again. And why alanmax and sloppy gave you red, that is ridiculous (considering they didn't red the useless newbie posts as well).

Actually, I do tend to think it is from people who do a google search of restaurant + birthday or similar who then come here and make a post as some sort of placeholder. At least that's what I kind of hope is the case, because that is the only thing that makes any sense. That said, I'll keep redding every one of them, as they are still useless and clog up the thread. If the dumb newbies would do any research, they'd find there are much better ways to bookmark or tag a thread. A while back, I noticed the mods did do a sweep and delete a bunch of the crud posts, but it doesn't take long for it to fill up again.

Why don't you look again who gave who red before you voice your opinion yet again. I also gave you red as you are pretty free with your reds as I am more selective.

I readily admitted that I am giving out lots of red where I think I see fit. Your posts are included as well. I often find your "selection" to be rather inconsistent and speculative.

Some pots calling the kettle black going on here...

I think you have an interesting Theory here. I was mostly speaking tongue-in-cheek. The fact, though, that FW did delete a bunch of these useless one-time posts some months back makes one wonder, though. That suggests that your idea may not be the case.

and your posts which many times are just your personal opinion would be classified even below what you classify mine as. I really don't give a rat's a$z what you red or seldom green. If you don't like or approve of my posts then you should have placed me on ignore long ago. Please do now and spare me your condescending attitude.
Not going to argue with you as I have seen you do that countless times with others.
I still see you have not admitted to being incorrect.

Or, it might suggest that whichever prize drawing those people may have been entered in had finally taken place, and FW could clear the decks.

But, who knows.

-----
Maybe it's a drop box for spies, arranged between FW and the powers that be, and these meaningless posts are actually top-secret messages in code, so they can't be deleted.

Perhaps there is tremendous meaning in the delicately-altered punctuation and capitalization of:
"Please ,thank YOU"

It's like that code written in stick men characters in Sherlock Holmes, except these messages are not marked out with chalk at a stately home in 19th Century England, but are being spewed out of the chaotic vortex centered around the Beloit IT industry.

...maybe being thorns in FW's side about this issue could be dangerous for you and me!

YOU SHOULD TAKE YOUR FULL BIRTHDAY AND FULL NAME OFF OF YOUR POST

IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO TAKE YOUR BIRTHDAY AND NAME OFF OF YOUR POST, CONTACT FATWALLET FOR INSTRUCTIONS

Oh, I know that, and I frequently point out to mods some "quoted" posts that they have forgotten to edit when they have edited something out of an original post.

I planned to return here and edit my post as soon as Patty had edited hers, if the mod had not caught it before the next time I viewed the thread.

NantucketSunrise said: I was not saying anything about Mewhojen and the upkeep of this particular thread - you read too much into my comment.  I wouldn't expect any volunteer member to corral all this information and keep a master thread on it updated singlehandedly.  Instead, my comment expressed my opinion about Fatwallet's decision not to make this a stickied thread in one of the several forums where this topic is often brought up anew by members who have no idea that a lot of the complilation work has already been done in previous threads.

It's unwieldy, to say the least; perhaps an update reflecting some verification over the last couple of years would help...?
NantucketSunrise said: Don't bug Mewhojen on my behalf, that's certainly the opposite of what I would have wanted to happen.  I think my recent work in bringing all the extant birthday freebie threads (all the ones that I could find, anyway) into a post here and into the Quick Summary of this thread is all that can be done, given that this topic isn't going to be given a stickied thread on Fatwallet, in contrast to such stickied topics as "Staples Rewards", "Fake Freebies", "Redbox Video Codes", "CVS Info", etc.  (I don't even think that "Hot Deals" is the best place for this topic, given that the value of most of the birthday freebies is less than $10 or whatever Fatwallet's arbitrary cut-off value for inclusion in Hot Deals is.)

No problem; any objections if I update the Quick Summary with a "2015/2016 Double-checked List"?
