Under a dollar a serving? What foreign nation can one purchase a combination of foods ending in "under a dollar" per serving?
Even rice and beans are not inexpensive as when this book was written.
I'm seeing a big old plate of pasta on the cover. Last I read starches were worse than fats, and processed starches top of the negative list.
Add to that cellulose, virgin wood pulp, is used as filler in a majority of foods and those processed starches look like impending death.

Thanks OP.† I wonder if I'm the only one who has a giant list of free cookbooks from Amazon and yet never uses any of them because even a comprehensive set of instructions is no guarantee that I won't completely screw up a dish.
