Is this really a $70 value when it gets bundled into deals all the time? Does anyone use this?

that is what it says at the link, but free is free and yes, many people do use bitdefender.

  Take it and run.

I use it !

It don't slow down my crappy PC

This is only 12 months, why don't you get the AVG Internet Security 2015, which will expire on February 26, 2018, that is more than 3 years.
This was posted a while back and every one forgot about it, but I have been using it for all this time, I even set it up yesterday on a new PC.
http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/expired-deals/1390747/ This was also MISTERCHEAP post, thank you MISTERCHEAP
This deal was flagged as expire, but the link still works and I even download the free trial from AVG website and just input the code:
8MEH-RJR4R-7FDJ6-NL3DA-CRXQC-JEMBR-ACED
After the program is set up, AVG gives you a different license number.
Just like the modes stated, use it at your own discretion.

To be honest, I uninstalled that, was a resource hog, kept getting "your computer is low on memory" warnings with it.

I think BITDEFENDER is a better rated program as well.

Thanks Mr. C...

All my computers have been running smooth with that software, that is because they have add-ons, that if you don't pay attention, are added into your system.
That is why, that one computer is running slower, because I didn't pay attention and I allowed them to install an extra web surfing add on. I click to fast for the permitting box as it showed up. I denied the other computer and make sure I read whenever they ask me to click on any additions or scans. I haven't had the time to erase and switch that computer, because I don't use it. That is my kids, so I left it like that, as they mess it up any way and at some point I might have to wipe and do a clean set up again.
Thanks MISTERCHEAP.

Big Thanks MR C!
I also find AVG to be a resource hog. I am glad I am not the only one. I uninstalled Webroot as it was close to expiring then installed AVG. I noticed an immediate and persisting slowness in my computer speed. Installing Bitefinder now. Thanks again MR C!

Thanks. My license is about to expire and was thinking of switching to AVG. It does slow down my netbook. But free is good

Runs fine on my desktop and laptop. Intel Atom doesn't help your cause either.

Are any of those freebies Mac compatible?

you will start getting email from supereasy.net shortly after you get your activation code.

you can often get one year for 3 pcs for $30, sometimes as low as $15.

http://www.av-comparatives.org/

Why are people so cheap? Foolish?

Bitdefender has tested this year to be better at catching threats than AVG and many other AV packages.

Since both are free, why pick a riskier alternative? Always look at the tests across the board to make sure you're not leaving yourself needlessly open to attacks.

Even Avira Free would do better than AVG.

I've been using BitDefender (FAR) for almost 2 yrs.  Love it, since it doesn't use much memory resources.
TYOP...!!!

How does this compare to ESET NOD32 antivirus?

FWIW, I found I needed to disable the firewall portion after it slowed down windows share/SAMBA to the point that I couldn't watch videos off my main computer over the network.

Currently/recently, bit performs better than eset for av detection.

It's generally bitdefender and kaspersky in the usa. (Both available in tons of stores, have far rebates, among the top rated consistently over time.)

But keep in mind usage!

If you only use the computer to visit banking and credit websites, and do little else, even the basic Microsoft Defender will do fine because you're not visiting any site that's "bad".

On the flip side, torrent, warez, porn, etc and you'd better think about visualizing the browser itself first, then a slew of other tricks like changing the user agent string, disabling JavaScript, sandboxie or VMware player the browser, etc to protect yourself. And pick from only the top three to five av packages.

"On the other hand, "

how does bit defender do vs Avast? Is it as good? is it as big a resourse hog as Avast?

I just activate my new Bit Defender and dumped Avast. However, it told me that it was only a 180 day license, not 1 year.......????

The email states that the license given to you is currently a 6-month license but will be automatically upgraded to a 1-year license in February

That is a dangerous proposition. The risk may be reduced but it's far from being eliminated. All kind of websites typically inject advertisement networks into the presentation, collaborate with 3rd parties on surveys and reach-out, and even the "trustworthy" adnetworks like yahoo have been found to distribute malware. Heck, by now it is so common that they even coined a term for it: malvertising.  The problem is simple, those ad networks are purely 3rd parties, so even if the desired webpage (like your bank) is not infected, you may be still at risk because the ads are fed with new data independently from the webpage you want to visit.

Anyway, I have Bitdefender installed as a FAR version with 5 free PC's. I hate it. I really do. I am not doubting their excellent detection rates or technical capabilities. But the user agent and management/configuration console sucks! Especially on wireless connections ,the included firewall resets the network template after each reboot: a trusted network (only one that allows for Windows printing, SMB shares, etc.) turns into a home/office network in which the printing and SMB browsing won't work. The thing is also incapable of detecting whether a VPN connection was established, so it treats the new DNS servers as an attack. The auto-mount (new removable device connected) has no disable button, just a shortly lived popup, so my family has complained about not being bale to use the CD drive for several minutes.

All of this causes one thing with the users: they gradually switch much of the protection system OFF. Cannot print Firewall goes bye bye. Cannot install from DVD/CD? Removeable device scanner is deactivated. The nice green buttons "this webpage is safe" (or the questionable safe wallet creating a forrest of popups every time you visit a banking webpage) taking way too long and making everything painfully slow: whole thing is switched off.

thanks op

Is there a MAC version of this free program, or jus for PC?

Yes, it's for (choose one) Windows, Mac, Android, and iPhone/iPad.

How long does it take to get the license email, I have not received it for about 2 hrs.

I got mine in like 10 min, use another email address.

I forwarded this link to a friend, as curtsey to share. She showed me how her computer got hacked. This link ended up downloading Vosteran a browser hijack virus, Optimize Pro virus, Linkey, File-ExtractorPlus. Has this happened to anyone else with this link? Are there any known virus or issues?

Instead of downloading Bitdefender, her computer got hacked when she clicked on this link, with these virus?? How is this possible? She is upset at me.

Your help appreciated.

Different email worked fine...and fast.  Definitely a junk filter issue.

Thanks "MISTERCHEAP", Great Deal!

You can bypass the whole "sharewareonsale" and go direct to bitdefender giveaway page and get more keys by enter more E-mail addresses if needed:

http://www.bitdefender.de/media/html/chip2015/

At the giveaway page, enter your email address in the “Bitte geben Sie eine E-Mail-Adresse an” field, enter the code you see in the “Code eingeben” field, and click the “KOSTENLOSE LIZENZ SICHERN” button. If you see a “Danke” message, that means your submission was successful.

Note: Download software in the E-mail is in German, "sharewareonsale" has English versions but the keys should work on both.

I guess I need to learn German. said: Thanks "MISTERCHEAP", Great Deal!

You could try downloading the English version from CNET: http://download.cnet.com/Bitdefender-Total-Security-2015/3000-18...
and see if the keys work.

Yep. I also uninstalled mine. I have 32 GB ram. AVG took ~29 GB ram if I had my PC on for more than 5 days..

Why Bitdefender (or another AV) vs another AV?
Simple, are you trying to PROTECT your computer? Or simply waste time?
It's always easy to use a LESS capable AV, get INFECTED, then spend HOURS fixing it.
Or, use one of the top AV programs in the hopes that you'll have a far lower chance of getting infected, losing data, and wasting time later.

Yes, I downloaded the English ver and it accepted the same pass code, even asked if I wanted to use the code already on my computer.
