The whole spec reads:
145W x 5 6 ohms 1kHz 0.5% THD

0.5% THD is very high. This is a low-end receiver. You get what you pay for.

Of course, nobody would ever blast 700W from a receiver anyway. The average wall outlet can only deliver 1850W, so the receiver would have to be at least 50% efficient or it would blow your breaker. Thus, the 700W is a marketing spec. You need to know the RMS power output to get a real guage of what the receiver can handle. Better manufacturers provide this.

It would be nice to know what the THD is at 1-25W RMS output, which is far more realistic and would give a far better measure of distortion. (Remember that most speakers put out 80-110 dB SPL at 1 meter, with just a 1W input!)

Agreed!
But then, who sits at 1M from speakers? (well, I do sometimes when I am keenly listening and want to avoid hearing room reflections)   A lot of folks also listen to compressed music (mp3) that really kills most of the quality that the THD pales in comparison. And the number one thing that makes the most difference are the speakers themselves!

Thanks OP. Tempted.

Frys is also selling these for the same price. I have this receiver, its good, I'd recommend.

Wish this deal would come back either at e bay or f rys.
