I was very impressed with the specs on this tab: Size, full HD, Quad-Core, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage + SD slot, and was thinking it might be a worthy alternative to the new Fire HD 8. The reputable eBay seller offers 30-day retuns, and their own 1-year warranty. However, after a bit of research I lost interest, based on the following:

  1. Condition: "This item is an open box unit. It shows light signs of use from processing the unit." I guess I could return it (at my expense) if it looks "Used" but uncertainty makes me a bit nervous.
  2. Non-existent support from Acer . Per their user support forum, this 2014 model tablet has KitKat installed and there is no option to upgrade to a modern, more 64-bit friendly OS. Acer never even released a patch to address the Stagefright vulnerability.
  3. Multiple Amazon Reviewers report experiencing charging port issues

I also wonder how the seller came into hundreds of these "Open Box" items too. Customer warranty returns? Unofficial recall?

Now $69.99.
