There is a problem with Spyware on some ZTE phones.  Check out the story from security expert Brian Krebs.
Chinese IoT Firm Siphoned Text Messages, Call Records

From the website, "At the center of the spyware controversy is software made by Shanghai ADUPS Technology, a Chinese firm whose product touts the ability to wirelessly update software installed on mobile and and IoT devices. The ADUPS technology is typically bundled with smart phones made by dozens of global wireless firms including ZTEBLU and Huawei, and sold at popular consumer destinations like Amazon and BestBuy".

"Prying apart the phone and the ADUPS software, they discovered that all call records and text messages to and from the device were being digitally copied, encrypted and secretly forwarded to a server in Shanghai, China every 72 hours."

Is it official response?  Blu, ZTE and Huawei are the ones in question.  I would avoid them for now.

Sure is -- the answer in the referenced thread is from a ZTE VP. Quoted below for the lazy:

Adups is not used in Axon 7 nor is it used in any phone that is shipped to the US.

Interesting. Well, they are admitting that they put Spyware on phones shipped outside the US.
I would not trust them or want to do business with them.

BLU phones shipped to the US did have this Spyware on it.

hmm this seems like a good deal

Just flash CM, nothing to worry about in terms of securities. Axon 7 is an amazing bargain and can be compared to those twice the price. The other top bang for the buck phone is one plus 3T.

Of all the flagship killer phones around $400, Axon 7 is arguably the best. Amazing specs, audio, battery life, but just an okay camera. This phone has amazing speakers and unreal audio quality with headphones. So the free headphones is a damn sweet deal. I just bought this.

This deal is back today.

Price back up to 399. Yesterday was the last day at 349; they made one minor change and included a different type of free headphones, but no longer the case today.
