Eight year old technology

They go for $80-150 on eBay.  $170 prob not a hot deal.

Yeah. On the other hand, compared with the new stuff in the same price category, it is still higher quality (despite being used) and just as fast (or slow) in many cases.

Meh - the age on SOME of these is not a big deal.  I have an '09 with extra RAM and an SSD, and use it daily.  But, the big thing here - this MacBook here is NOT unibody, meaning no glass trackpad with multitouch, much shorter battery, heavier, and most importantly - cannot run the latest version of OS X.  Folks, this particular model is actually 10 year old technology with an 8 year old processor.

However, if you are interested in one (maybe for the kids), they have a 2010 unibody for $209.99 which is a pretty decent deal and well worth the extra $40.  I have this model, add an SSD and you are set.
