Panasonic LUMIX DMC-G7 combines stunning 4K video, high resolution photo and a host of practical new features to help anyone capture their creative vision easier than ever before. Perfect for the amateur photographer wanting to produce professional quality images, the 16-megapixel LUMIX DMC-G7 is designed for ease-of-use without compromising on performance. The new 4K Photo feature allows you to crop individual frames from 4K video footage, so it no longer matters if you didn't press the shutter at quite the right time. The camera has also been developed to provide maximum mobility and versatility, making the LUMIX DMC-G7 the perfect camera to document special moments with family and friends, right through to adventures abroad. Use 4K Video to capture the perfect photo Panasonic's LUMIX G cameras are renowned for their high quality video capability and the latest addition to the range is no exception. The LUMIX DMC-G7 records stunningly smooth, high-resolution 4K video (3840x2160) at four times the resolution of full-HD. The result is crystal clear footage that captures even the most intricate details, such as individual blades of grass or stars in the night sky. The LUMIX DMC-G7 integrates new imaging technology that takes advantage of this outstanding 4K video performance to capture 8-megapixel photos with more accuracy than ever before. The 4K Photo function allows you to capture even the most fleeting photo opportunities with exact precision. After capturing 4K footage, you can simply scroll through 30 frames per second of video to select the exact image that you had in mind. Perfect for capturing shots of sea life breaching the surface or the exact moment a child blows out the candles, 4K Photo takes photographic control and accuracy to a whole new level. Crisp clear images full of color The LUMIX G7 features a 16-megapixel sensor that has been developed to achieve high resolution pictures and video, minimizing distortion and graininess, even in low light conditions, for example a dimly lit restaurant or bar. The sensor is accompanied by a new and improved Venus Engine that accurately analyses, evaluates and reproduces every color in every frame, resulting in crisp, clear and bright photos and videos that are true to the original. Built for any adventure Panasonic's LUMIX G Interchangeable lens cameras incorporate the latest technology in a considerably more compact and mobile design, compared to their larger DSLR counterparts. At just 410g (body, battery and SD card), the LUMIX DMC-G7 is the ideal travel companion. With a high performance OLED Live View Finder(LVF) and 3-inch 1040K-dot Free-Angle touch screen display, the LUMIX DMC-G7 is ready to accommodate any shooting style. You can either use the rear screen or the LVF to compose your shots, with both providing 100% field of view to ensure you're not missing an even better shot at the edge of the frame. The camera's range of customizable dials and a touch screen display also make choosing your settings easier than ever. Ready before you are Panasonic's LUMIX G range is synonymous with fast and accurate Auto Focus (AF) functionality, meaning you can concentrate on framing your shot safe in the knowledge that your LUMIX camera will do the rest. The LUMIX DMC-G7 takes even less time to set focus than its predecessors, analyzing the scene and adjusting settings in the blink of an eye. The result is crystal clear photos and video every time, even when you're dealing with the most unpredictable, fast-moving subjects. Make your smart device part of the experience The LUMIX DMC-G7 integrates Wi-Fi connectivity for exciting new shooting options, as well as fast and simple image sharing. With a press of a button you can connect the camera to a smartphone or tablet, allowing you to upload images and video to social media within seconds, or email them directly to friends and family. You can also use your mobile devices as a remote control for the LUMIX DMC-G7, changing settings such as focus, aperture, shutter speed and ISO, before triggering the shutter release; and all without laying a finger on the camera itself.
Panasonic DMC-G7 Features
Superb DSLM image quality without the bulk and weight of traditional DSLRs: The LUMIX G7's 16 megapixel sensor operates much like the larger sensors found in traditional DSLR cameras. The G7, however, also features a next-generation intelligent image processor that produces video and photos free from artifacts that degrade image quality.
4K Photo Modes Three Ways to Get the Perfect Shot: The 4K PHOTO function includes three different modes, all leveraging the G7's 30-frames-per-second video capture rate. - 4K Burst, 4K Burst S/S (Start/Stop), and 4K Pre-Burst
4K Video 4X More Detail Than Full HD: 4K Ultra HD video delivers a far more intense viewing experience when compared to Full HD, with 4X times the number of pixels.
Intuitive Controls: Featuring a retro modern design, the LUMIX G7 is smaller and lighter than traditional DSLRs, yet still provides intuitive, easy access to common functions
Fast and Precise Auto Focus Tracking: Intelligent auto focusing [AF] tracks the color, size, and motion vector of the subject, enabling quick and precise focus lock. So you'll shoot with confidence without worrying about blurry results.
High Speed Auto-Focusing with DFD Technology: The LUMIX G7 utilizes Panasonic's exclusive Depth-From-Defocus (DFD) Auto Focus (AF) technology* which instantly calculates the distance to subjects, then quickly adjusts the focus. Enjoy AF speeds up to 0,07 seconds and burst shooting speeds with Continuous Auto Focus [AFC] of 6 frames per second
Better Control for More Enjoyable Photography: Focus Peaking: A manual "focus peaking" color outline indicates the exact in-focus area along with depth-of-field distance. Silent Shooting: Wi-Fi With the Panasonic Image App and a Wi-Fi connection, you can control various functions on the LUMIX G7 using a smartphone or tablet device.

If you don't care about the superior video resolution and video features on this camera, the Canon T5i is available refurbished direct from Canon's outlet store for $349.99 with 18-55mm kit lens. The T5i has a significantly bigger APS-C sensor and will take not only better (more detailed, crisper, less noisy) pictures than any Micro Four-Thirds (m4/3) camera, but will be much more useful for indoor, low-light photography, or photographing any sort of moving subjects.

I used to own a Lumix G2 Micro 4/3 camera, a predecessor of this camera, having read all sorts of comments about how it had the picture quality and low light capability, plus the option of multiple lenses, of a DSLR, but the compact size of a point-and-shoot camera. From my experience, that was essentially hype and I was tremendously disappointed with pretty much all aspects of the camera. It took decent photos of non-moving subjects outdoors, but was incapable of shooting in lower light levels or of any sort of moving subjects indoors, unless one cranked the ISO up to 1600 which produced extremely grainy photos, rendering it less than fully useful for the parent of an active third grader. My wife's Lumix ZS-3 compact travel zoom took equivalent photos outside and better photos in lower light, notwithstanding its smaller sensor. I found that, contrary to predictions, 3rd-party lens manufacturers did not jump on the m4/3 bandwagon, the lenses available from Panasonic and Olympus were quite limited and cost about double to triple what a Canon or Nikon lens would cost. The only two aspects of my G2 I liked were its compact size and its fold-out swiveling screen. I sold it on eBay and last year bought myself a Canon EOS Rebel SL1, the world's smallest DSLR, refurbished direct from Canon in a 2-lens package with an 18-55mm kit lens and 70-300mm long zoom lens, for $299; it went on sale even cheaper, at $279, a week later.

My SL1 came with the same one-year warranty as a new Canon and appeared 100% brand new in condition. I cannot begin to tell you how much better the photos from the larger sensor on the SL1 are than the G2 - it is a significantly bigger difference than the G2 versus a typical point and shoot. Clarity and details are better, the photos are sharper, the colors (especially red - Panasonics do not handle red very well) are more accurate and I have taken many dozens of really impressive photos with my Canon, whereas I am not sure if I took a single outstanding photo with the G2 in the year I owned it. I later bought myself an f/1.8 50mm prime lens from the Canon outlet for $89.99, and it has enabled me to take crisp, clear, and detailed photos in much lower light conditions than any other camera I've owned, including a Canon S100 (1/1.6" sensor, f/2.0 lens) or an Olympus XZ-2 (1/1.6" sensor, f/1.8 lens). There is such a huge variety of lenses available and one can get a quality lens at nearly every focal length for about the price of one of the cheaper m4/3 lenses.

Not to mention that Canon has the best service in the industry, bar none. Canon will take responsibility for any defects in their cameras even years after the warranty expired. In contrast, Panasonic has a $350 flat fee to repair out of warranty.

Unless you have to have the 4k video, the Canon DSLRs will provide you with much better image quality than the G7. The T5i has the swing-out screen that is pretty nice, plus a number of additional controls and features, but it is a full-sized DSLR, whereas the SL1 has a fixed screen, but is much smaller, just a touch larger than a micro 4/3s camera.
