You can get the 5th generation from Amazon for like $30 more.

I have the Amazon G Plus, good, but not great - no wireless charge or android pay. I would suggest the newer Amazon model. The 'ads' are not obtrusive, and I really dislike ads.

Forgive my ignorance, but what carrier would be recommended for this? I'm looking to get rid of my Sprint phones when contract is up and I'm exploring options.

The Moto G4 series phones work will all US carriers

I have this phone for more than 6 months and I haven't had any of the issues mentioned above. Knock on wood for that. However, this phone doesn't have the magnetic sensor so the compass doesn't work. The battery life is okay and it's certainly much better than the Samsung S4 that I had replaced. I like the quick charger that comes with the phone. It can recharge a nearly dead phone without about 30 min. The one thing that I didn't like is the panoramic function. It nearly fails every times I used it. My old Samsung S4 worked much better.
