1. Can't see on website whether these are refurb or new. Refurbed HDD just means used. It may be new, but hard to tell. Anyone ever dealt with this seller?

2. "IntelliPower Rotational Speed " means it is a VERY slow HDD. IIRC, WD came up with this scheme as a way to deal with HDDs that are rejects from normal HDD production. They can't past testing at full speed, so WD slows them down until they can pass. Similar nonsense on WD "green" drives.  It may just mean that it is slow, but it may also mean it has other problems.

WD tries to sell it as a "green" feature - is uses less power and makes it better for NAS. Technically true that it uses less power (running slower) - but the correct way to manage power in NAS is not so slow the drives off, it is to have the NAS manage them and power them off when not needed.

So, there are uses for these, but don't buy one for your laptop expecting decent performance. I wouldn't use for anything other than backup - but YMMV.

WD says that Red is intended for NAS.  That being the case, the NAS optimizations would make Red a poor choice for a laptop.  Black, blue or green would be sensible and more or less in that order.

I sure wouldn't buy one at that price if it's used.  No telling where it's been and for how long.
