The Craftsman 30-watt soldering iron connection yields a quick heat-up time, allowing you to get to work fast. Every soldering iron should be accompanied by a quality tin of flux so you can properly burn the solder without damaging the tip.

45 watt is $5.92, in case the 30 watt is not available at your local Sears.

Agree.. 30watt is a small heater... Which just warm up the air a bit around it.. a 30watt light bulb.

But I'd love to see it actually melt the solder.

Of course it melts the solder.
I use my old 30 watt iron for removing/replacinmg capacitors etc on pcb boards.
Once heated up, takes just a few seconds to flow solder.

How long does it takes to heat up?  Just curious.

Did you plug it into the kill-a-watt to verify it actually drawing 30watt only?
