Its a DVI cable....its not better or worse...

That is what I figured, but some poeple said that the cable that Dell ships for the DVI is low quality, but I'm guessing he might be one of those you need monster cable to get the best sound ;p

A DVI cable passes 0's and 1's to the monitor. Unless you're seeing artifacts on the screen, any dvi cable is as good as any dvi cable. Corporate marking from companies such as Monster are the only reason people think that it makes any difference with digital connections.

can you post the product numbers of the DVI-D and HDMI cables??

I am looking for some too?

Well, I snagged one of the Netdisks (not sure what I'm going to do with it) and an s-video to rca adapter (never know when I might need it, for $3.75) at the Baltimore (york road plaza) store. They still have another netdisk in stock if that helps anyone...

Yesterday I stopped by another Radio Shack (rotunda) that was listed as having the netdisk. I forgot to write down the sku. Ask the guy if they have any more of the ximeta netdisk drives and he goes "no, we don't sell zip drives". He then looks in the back, then asks me what the item is and I tell him it's a usb and networked hard drive. He then looks at the shelves, picks up an item, and asks me "is this it"? He was holding a Belkin pci USB card.

Maybe Radio Shack should change their motto from "you've got questions, we've got even more questions".

They also had an empty Haupauge Media MVP box on the shelf. Asked the guy if they had any more. Checked in the back, none, checked the computer, showed 1. He told me someone probably stole it. Why someone would steal a media MVP I don't know, especially taking EVERYTHING out of the box including inside packaging. And how do you steal something in a store the size of a large closet where the employees ask you every 30 seconds if you need help?

He! He! I love these kind of stories.

anyone snag a extra Xbox live starter kit. I just checked and they have none in my area at all. If you have a extra one i would appreciate it. Please send me a private message if you do

Has anyone purchased the one room Dish system for $49?

Does it require you to be a new subscriber or can you add the box to your existing account?

got 1 barbie alarm clock for my doll

Thanks for the laugh. I thought my local store was the only one like that!

so how well do people like their digital voice recorders?

I was one of the lucky ones that got one of the 120gb ones at OfficeMax for $39 (no rebate). I am not even using it as a network enclosure, though, 1) because I don't need to, and 2) if I did, I would probably kill the hard drive because as long as its powered and turned on, as far as I can tell, the hard drive never spins down.
If you raise the drive up off of your desk (mine is now 1/2" off the surface using wooden dowels), the drive runs pretty darn cool to the touch (barely warm). I say this after *ahem* streaming about 23 gigs worth of files for 21 days straight now and counting. Before I put the risers under it, heat buildup made it very hot to handle. The little feet Ximeta stuck on the bottom really are not enough. Just FYI.

Is this drive proprietary? Or can I throw this 120 into a machine and throw a 200 or 300 into this? Thanks!

The voice is pretty clear on HQ. Pictures are fine too though you cannot see them on the recorder screen. Only download them to PC .. never know if you took the right pic or no until you download. These days, with a camera in almost all cell phones, and voice recorders in almost all mp3 players dunno how useful this thing is .... But one advantage: it has a speaker .. so unlike an mp3 player, you don't have to use a headphone... and many people can listen at the same time.

The recording time is also kind of small .. just 30 minutes on High Quality and 2H10M on Low Quality. I'm an audio paranoid .. would try to use HQ unless I'm really short of space, and I know that the conversation/meeting is going to exceed 30 minutes. .. So really small capacity.

Finally, it's a cool toy, isn't that big .. the price is okay too (it probably deserves to be 25). The recording fromat is some proprietery thing .. you'll have to hunt for conversion software. The LQ stuff can be converted to wave format using an application on RadioShack wesite. I'm still looking for the HQ conversion one.

The battery life looks okay. Somebody at eBay was saying that he hasn't replaced the battery since last 15-20 hours ... Also takes simple 2xAAA so you can use chargeable batteries.

So up to you if you want to buy it. It's an old antiquated model made by some unknown Korean company in 2001/2. I'm sure it was pretty hot when it came out. My reason for buying it was the marked price of 199 coming to 24 something.. Later on I found that ratshack always sold it for 69.99 .. the attraction and the feeling of 'deal achievement' has disappeared even though the product is the same ...

Thanks for the lowdown. My local store has one (according to the web site), but after that review, I don't think I need one. I thought it recorded video, and had a viewfinder. The picture on the site is kind of small and hard to tell. So it's really an audio recorder that can take snapshots then, correct? I'd rather get an Apitek DV4500 solid-state MPEG-4 recorder for ~$60, or that new hackable "one time use" digital video cam from CVS. I was looking for something that would do actual video.

Video? Sounds like you need a camcorder.

Yes, it's an audio recorder with a build in digicam. I believe it does have a viewfinder (but no display to view the pictures).

IF anyone finds the xbox live let me know. I can pay $25 so its worth your time. PM Me if you find one. thanks.

ken987 - your post should be on eBay, not here in Hot Deals.

Thanks OP for the heads up - got a $20 credit from the SHack for the Universal Broadband Link I bought $20 weeks ago. Anyone that got one of these the past few weeks should go back. I picked up 2 more for friends and got a $20 credit for the 1st one.

Some clearance labels at RS are not up to date, just have the person scan it. I picked up the 15-1086 12ft HDMI cable, very happy, also got the Siruis Radio package (home and car) for 75 bucks plus a $30 rebate at Sirius Rebate Link . Life just don't get any better. Thanks OP!

Got both DVI cables (digital only and digital+analog) for $12+ ea....
it's closed out at $49 less 75%.
Thanx.

Does any know if the universal broadband link will work with the NetGear XE102 powerline adaptors that were on sale at CompUSA in mid Sept. 2005?

Has anyone setup and listened to the RCA 6pc speakers? Comments, other than you get what you pay for?

If you got the Universal Broadband Link you might want to check out this post for a Belkin Surge Protector for HomePlug networks for $15.99.

I did use the speakers with an Onkyo receiver that was collecting dust. The sound is decent, not bad (I'm comparing it to the Logitech z-680 setup I have). The subwoofer is quite powerful and overpowering for those speakers.
I'm going to return them though.

Thanks OP... I'm loving my RCA turntable. It was a open-box display model, but had never been plugged in. Manager gave me 10% off and the 1-year extended protection plan (normally $10-12 according to him). I've been looking for a while and this worked out perfect.

Hmm, so are the RCA speakers on par, better or worse than your z-680's? I have z-2200, which I rhink are the 2.1 version of the z-680, and the 2200 sounds awesome. So if these are on par or a little worse that's more than fine for me for the price

Were the 6ft ones s-video also or composite???

optical/composite, I haven't seen s-video on clearance in my store.

actually, these were both optical/s-video

DVI or Component cables on clearance?

It's showing $22 online and instore locally for me as well. Thanks!

Friday is the start of the Friends & Family coupon. You can get an additional 30% off RS branded merchandise, 10% off other stuff. So for a clearance cable that makes the price more attractive. I am going to get an hdmi to dvi cable. I thought

You can get the coupon from one of your friendly RS employess only. If you ask them about it they would probably give you one.

I am also going to bring in the reciepts for all the junk I bought from RS in the past month to use with my coupon. The coupon does not have a limit on the number of items you buy. So I can get an additional 10% off my hdtv receiever, 10% off my roku, and 30% off some zip-zap cars for my son.

Branded, that's a great idea. Isn't the HDTV receiver RadioShack branded meaning that we'll get 30% off? It's made by Accurian, but there's a huge RadioShack logo on the box so does that still count? Too bad though, I bought my receiver on the 17th of September so I guess I won't be able to get the F&F discount this Friday since it will be past 30 days.

get your cables at www.monoprice.com

no waiting for clearance, sales, or MIRs. Just GREAT prices all the time. I spent just under $50 on my last order to them and got easily $500 (normal store prices) worth of cables.

really, you can do that? just bring in a receipt and they'll credit you depending on payment method??? I better make friends with a RS employee real soon.

90% off retail? Wow. But how do you know about the quality of the cables vs the retail versions. Not all cables are created equal. What is the quality of cables monpprice sells?

If you noticed in my post I said that I tried that route and the monoprice cable did not work. It was defective. So sometimes you get what you pay for. And I tried to contact monoprice about a replacement and never heard back from them.
I will probably still buy cables from them, just not hdmi to dvi cables.

Update;

my monoprice cable was not defective, my testing method was.

Yes, you can put other drives into this case. Here's the info from the Original OMax thread (credit to mikeontech) Here is a link to a tuturial that {mike} prepared showing how to open this enclosure.

Here is the short version from the same OMax thread (credit to ????):

to open
the back of the drive is the end where you stick the power
the top is the part that has the netdisk label
on the sides of the unit about 1.5" from the back are little holes on each side
you need to insert a thick paper clip into each side
to force back a clip on each side
u need to push the clip back about 1/8"
then the top and sides of the unit will slide forwards(to the front) about 1" then you can lift the top off the rest of the drive assembly
this will give you access to the drive and everything

I have not tried these myself , but it sounds good. If you are going to still use it as a NetDisk, I know it HAS to be formated as NTFS - not sure about just hooking up via USB.

I was setting up the RCA speakers and they didn't come with any wires , anyone have suggestions to get a good set for a good deal?

I had a lot of trouble getting RadioShack managers to let me return stuff and repurchase using the friends and family coupon. Most of my expensive stuff was past 30 days. It took the employee 40 minutes to give me $27 credit for 4 items that were recent purchases.

The coupon is only good till the 28th I think, and you get 10% off some stuff, and 30% RS branded stuff.
