Nice deal!

To get that price, you drop all of the extras, and when you get to customization, change to the following (in order):

Free 512MB SDRAM SODIMM
Windows XP Home
No Microsoft Office
256 MB SDRAM
40GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
ThinkPad CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo

And leave the rest of the options as is and it should drop to $1320 (plus tax and shipping)

I'm currently using a Thinkpad T40 and I much prefer that than the Inspiron 6000, 8600 or 600m.

But they're in two different classes. I haven't used a Latitude D600 or D series machine yet.

the lattitudes are nothing special overall. thinkpads blow them out of the water

i guess the only negative about all this is the fact that this deal isn't "special" or "limited". i.e. prices might drop even more as lenovo starts cranking out more cost-effective solutions, etc. then again, maybe not.

The ThinkPad is gearing up for its return to retail, starting with a partnership announced Thursday between Lenovo and Office Depot. Consumers will be able to purchase either a ThinkPad Z60t widescreen or a ThinkPad T43 with biometric fingerprint readers starting Nov. 6, China's Lenovo Group said. The laptops will retail starting at $699--a 50 percent price drop from their usual $1,399 price tag online. The computers are expected to compete with similar designs from Office Depot's other PC suppliers: Hewlett-Packard, Sony and Toshiba. It's the first time ThinkPad-branded computers have sat on store shelves since IBM backed out of the retail business in 1999 in favor of a direct-sales model. ThinkPad laptops are almost exclusively sold online except for a handful of showrooms, such as RSC Experience on Madison Ave. in New York.

Lenovo will need to be mindful of pricing, Bhavnani added, because Office Depot does drop its prices drastically. The retailer's latest circular advertises Toshiba and Compaq laptops with Intel Celeron processors for $599. Office Depot also offered a $399 Compaq Presario about a month ago. I love my Thinkpad but it is 6 years old. Sould like it may be worth waiting a couple months before jumping to buy new one.. What do you all think?

Technology is constantly improving and depreciating. You could wait until you're dead of old age if you'd like.

Does anybody know how fast IBM ships and delivers. I need it soon by next thursday and planning to order one which shows as in stock. Any experience with delivery and shipping time with IBM? Is it always held by custom or some people do get it on time?

You can get a DVD instead of the CD-RW/DVD. It's the middle option in that group. That's another -$30 for a total of $1290.

did i do something wrong? i unchecked the boxes, clicked customize, then lowered all the features but wifi. my price is still 1369 before tax...

edit: sneaky. they dont tell you that winxp prof costs more


the x40 is also on sale for $1300 before tax. dunno how hot that is though.

For those that are thinking of buying this laptop or any other PC: If you are also planning to buy a HP branded printer/digital camera/scanner, HP has a $50 rebate IF you buy them on the SAME day. And looking at the rebate form http://h30014.www3.HP.com/offers/us/pdf_printable_coupon/1165_anypcbundle.pdf, it appears that you can get $50 rabate for each item -- Total can be "$50 or more".

You don't need one. Did you try to buy it? I bought a T43 with my SPAM-ONLY hotmail account and it worked like a charm.

I hate my t43, the fan runs all the time and seemingly has seizures in the process. It's incredibly annoying.

Did you get confirmed? What's your status. And I see some guys from the other poster they got cancelled probably because they have no relation to the OSU.

OSU has better prices for T43 but less choices of models than EPP.
