To prevent red, please include a link to the deal Thanks!

Stats would also be cool....though I suppose my lazy arse could look 'em up for myself to see if this deal is any good.

......aaaaaaand here I go......

Good deal. The X61 tablet is quality. I got one during the 50% off coupon deal, but their customer service was a nightmare. In the end I got what I wanted and it was worth it.

Really tempted to get in on this. I almost jumped in at $750 for the last deal. I just find it really hard to stomach that people got these for a mere $425 or so back in December.

The great thing about Lenovos is that they still have those little joysticks for mice in addition to those annoying trackpads. I hate trackpads.

@tadr, what $425 deal are you referring to? Have a link? Was it for the x61s or tablet? I saw another for $545 but even some in the thread said it didn't go through.

Most people should have got their X61s and X61t ordered on Dec 6th, 2008. The promoiton was cheaper than the current one and back then there were some CashBack site offering 10% CashBack.

Yeah the X61 was around $450 and the X61 tablet was around $565 in December using the 50% off coupon and after the 10% CashBack and the $15 Wired magazine rebate. This is still a good price though.

the specs on this are not very good

Upgrade the hard drive and ram yourself using the deals in this forum.

Earlier today, I stopped by Microcenter and I saw an X61 Tablet with the printed specs tag said it had a screen resolution of 1440x1050. Is it possible?

processor is weak and integrated graphics card only.. if you're looking for budget specs like this, why not go for a budget brand as well and save a few bucks?

yup. it is SXGA+ (1400 x 1050). I have one with that resolution.

Uh... you don't know what you're talking about.

Budget brand -> laptop will die early
"Budget" specs -> don't have processing power for gaming, but don't need it when the laptop will be used for word-processing/email, etc.

The X61s is an incredible ultra-portable laptop, so these wouldn't even be considered "budget" specs anyway; nobody puts surplus processing power in laptops for people that want a small laptop with great battery life.

Most major corporations and many government IT departments use Thinkpads for a reason: they are well-designed, sturdy, reliable, and well-supported machines. At these prices, they're a great deal.

If you want a disposable laptop (e.g. last 1-2 years), go with something else. Otherwise, get a Thinkpad.

This is an excellent deal. Doesnt hurt to pick up Ultrabase as well ($159). Its cheaper to upgrade Hard disk and memory thru other deals. I paid around $1100 couple of years ago for X60 w/Ultrabase. This is freaking amazing.

You have no idea what Lenovo is and what X61 is.

You are completely clueless. You deserve a Toshiba or something.

The X61 does not have a trackpad.

This is a good deal. I bought mine when it first came out with ultrabase for nearly $3000.

It was and its over. Today is not 12/6. This is an excellent deal today...

I just ordered an x61t. Thanks OP.

Does the 8 cell stick out on the bottom and how long does it last?

Warning: Lenovo's order support can be terrible. I got in on the December 50% off deal and still don't have a machine.

See that thread for stories about ongoing delays, cancelled orders, and substitutions. It's a good price on what would likely be a great machine, but I can't see dealing with this company again.

@Aznmaverick, unfortunately, yes--8 cell does stick out. 4-cell is much better looking and lighter if you don't do long distance travel that often.

My x61s is a beautiful machine (with 4-cell) that runs very fast and stable. This deal is slightly more expensive but with larger HDD (160G vs 80G) and battery (8-cell vs 4-cell), so it's a very decent deal really.

I got one on Dec 6, it was $535 before CB, i only got some 5% CB (it was $515 after CB). I dont know which 10% CB you're talking bout.

Thanks OP, in for one.

I missed it back when it was $535, but in hindsight it had a 4 cell battery, while I needed an 8 cell. Accounting for the cost difference of the batteries I may just be paying an extra $50.

Considering that a decent netbook cost $400 - $450, a x61s at $650 is a great bargain.

ATM
This is a good deal for the x61s

Thinkpads are not overrated

I am still using a x31 from 4 + years ago
I had a x61t didn't like it because it was soo heavy and the multi touch isn't anything like a iphone multi touch

I can't part with it. i have bought and sold macbook 13's Toshiba compaq 13 Dell 13 15
I always come back to this unit

Build quality , durability, is like no other
The best notebook keyboard hands down
hot keys are perfectly placed and useful
and the pointer once you get used to it is very accurate and much more efficient than a trackpad

x61s are the original high quality "netbooks" before there were netbooks
also for me 12" is the ideal size for viewing and portability
I think soon you will see most netbooks at this screen size

SD credit?

actually, most of the guys ordered in Dec got free upgrade to 8cell and 4950 wireless card due to Lenovo's inventory shortage.
So the spec is the same!

Great product which used to have great customer service..

Still a great product.

Crappy customer service.

Ah I see.

Oh well, it's just a hundred bucks more. I don't have a time machine

Good price. Only drawback no in built dvd player. I guess I will have to wait for T series or R series deal.

What!? Unlucky me. Got it early that morning. Got the 4-cell.

Me too. I was actually downgraded from the TMD Ultralight LCD to the standard LCD, but Lenovo credited the difference and threw in a fingerprint reader. Timing is indeed everything.

For the person looking for a deal on the T series ThinkPads, do consider the T400--it's an excellent machine.

Thanks I will look in T400

T400's design is worse than X61 or X200.
the plastic palm holder and keyboard is a little shaky and crappy

on an HP mini now and the atom proc simply isnt cutting it for me. this came at the perfect time so thanks OP

next questions:
vista 64? drivers section answered my question as YES to this
osx ?

the video card in these (intel 4700) are a problem, i don't remember any mac ever using this so good luck if you're thinking hackintosh.

Heard the x61s has heat issues (palm rest area), anyone experienced it with their X61s?

Just to chime in on this deal. IBM products are great but as others have said, their customer service is less than desirable.

After several contacts with customer service reps I was transferred to a manager who said "I heard about your dealings with our agents and the problems you've been having. I am sorry for your incontinence."
