They've opened in L.A. today. Universal CityWalk: https://www.timeout.com/los-angeles/blog/voodoo-doughnut-has-arr...

It's been years since I last had a Bacon Maple. It has all the food groups. I must have one soon. Maybe this weekend or next.

We East-coasters can get them at Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia at Beiler's. Yummmm!

My Burgerwars Review:

I was in the area yesterday, so I stopped by Universal CityWalk VooDoo Doughnuts.  I bought two maple-bacon and two double chocolate for myself and to bring to work.  I tasted the maple-bacon and double chocolate.  They're only average donuts, and not what I remember what they were like when I was in Portland.  I rate this place as a tourist trap, and not dependent on repeat business.  There are much better donuts if I buy them from the bakery at the Ralph's supermarket near me.  No line, I can pick my own, and much cheaper.

Closest i came to them was a guy that got on the train in Portland heading to Seattle with a box.

He didn't bring any to share.

I like Daily Dozen Donuts in Pike Place Market.
Closer to home, I like All Star Donuts in El Cerrito or Happy Donuts (but the staff is not very happy there) where the glazed donut holes are fabulous.

I have a bumpersticker from the Denver one that reads "the magic is in the hole"

I am considering decorating someone's bumper with this

Death by doughnut.

  Pancakes can kill, too...

I heard about the pancake death yesterday.  I'm thinking if you're shoving down all that doughy stuff in a food eating challenge, if you're not careful, you can get food debris stuck, or breath it down your windpipe.  Maybe the pieces aren't large, but it can clog things up like a drain gets clogged.  You're doomed unless medical staff are around to do an emergency tracheotomy.  The Heimlich maneuver may not help.

Anyway, the donuts are better at Dunkin' Donuts.  Much cheaper too.  Right now I'm dreaming of eating a jelly filled glazed donut, nice and slow.

I won a donut in the Safeway Monopoly game and chose a glazed jelly-filled. It was sorely lacking in everything, but who can complain at that price?
