is this a decent enough computer for surfing and word processing? i think so. i know it's not a i7 but grandma does very basic things and also has a chromebox using neverware. the laptop is for some special windows software she uses. with trade in, i can get this for $250.

Looks like it would be overkill, if anything.  Certainly enough based on what you've said.

Just verify if there's anything truly special about the "special software" ... but I'd be surprised.

I have two laptops that are older and less powerful than this and they're still "daily drivers" for IT people.

The only qualm I would have is if the screen is big enough, but the trade-off would be a heavier laptop (unless it's stationary and the additional space isn't an issue).

My "older folks" have been using a Desktop forever and at least a 24" screen...the current one is about 5 years old and was a bargain unit at the time.  An all-in-one would be good if it didn't have to be portable as well...

good price! Is portability important? Does she plug in a keyboard and mouse? My mom couldn't manage the trackpad (severely arthritic hands) or the flat keyboard and the screen is too small. She uses a desktop computer.

Not only are desktops easier to use (real keyboard, real mouse, bigger screen), they're easier to fix when a glass of prune juice gets spilled on them.

I would get them a Packard Bell.

My parent's first computer!  I hated supporting that thing remotely!

I'm glad this thread isnt about dancing.

Pretty much any computer nowadays will easily support surfing & word processing.  This one will do fine.  Only thing I'd add is a wireless mouse w/ nano receiver.

that's a nice one. esp for the price. replaced ssd on the old laptop. has passmark of 1900. this A9 has passmark of 2860. while dirt cheap at $150 i'm going to see how the ssd does.
