Ham Turnovers

(makes 4 turnovers)

list of 8 items
1 sheet pre-made frozen puff pastry, thawed
1/2 tablespoon creole mustard or honey mustard
1/2 teaspoon garlic, minced
2 tablespoons butter
1/4 teaspoon poppy seeds
4 round slices of thinly sliced ham, cut in half and edges trimmed (making 8 triangular pieces)
4 square slices of Swiss cheese, cut in half diagonally (also making 8 triangular pieces)
1 egg, beaten

Step 1
Dust your work surface with flour and roll out the sheet of puff pastry into a square 1″ larger in diameter than it was originally. Cut evenly into four

Step 2
Place the mustard, garlic, butter, and poppy seeds in a small bowl and microwave on high for 30 seconds, or until the butter melts. Stir together well.
Place 1/2-1 tablespoon of the butter/mustard mixture in the center of each puff pastry square and spread evenly, stopping 1/2″ before the edges. Reserve
the remaining sauce.
Step 3
Lay 2 slices of cheese and 2 slices of ham on each puff pastry square. Brush the edges of the puff pastry with the beaten egg.
Step 4
Fold the puff pastry squares in half, making triangles. Score the edges of the pastry together with the tines of a fork.
Step 5
Pour 1/2 of the remaining beaten egg into the bowl of mustard sauce and mix together. Brush the mixture across the tops of the turnovers. Bake at 400 degrees
for 15 minutes or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
