JFK is closer than LGA

Thank you Gamblin Gal16!

there's actually an airport on L.I., can't remember the name, I think SWA flies there, code ISP.

It's Macarthur Airport - Long Island Islip (ISP is airport code as max pointed out)

Thank you MaxMojo and MadMurphy! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border=0>

I appreciate everyone's responses and help...I am going to check the code out now!

Thank you again!

Don't forget to hit up an Italian bakery!

As said before, Islip is on Long Island. Even better, Islip fares are usually cheaper than JFK and LGA (Islip is a small, quaint airport).

I believe Mac Arthur Airport (ISP) is closer to Deer Park than JFK or LGA. It's also A LOT easier to drive in and out. And it's A LOT smaller. Very little traffic. If you can get a flight there, that would be your best bet.

I flew in and out of there to/from Phoenix, what a piece of cake compared to the other airports.

you can get cheap tickets to ISP from southwest, if they fly out of your airport. We jusr finished planning our trip and the $ diff between JFK and LGA was a couple of dollars. I think LGA is closer to manhattan (where we are going)

Exactly, Southwest Airlines. If you fly them, you save if your destination is ISP.

I haven't been on their website in a while, but I believe you can choose from different price ranges based on availability. If you plan your trip way in advance, you have a better chance of getting the least expensive seats. If it's closer to the date of departure, the prices are still usually cheaper than some major airlines.

I flew out of ISP about 12 years ago. I remember that instead of having a parking lot charging like $5 or $10, it was 50 cents to park my car for the weekend. Islip is definitely the way to go.

If I were going to Deer Park and had to choose between JFK and LGA, I'd choose LGA. LGA is easier to get in and out of. From JFK, the Belt Parkway is one of the scariest roads I've ever been on (although you'll avoid the scariest parts near the Verrazano Narrows Bridge). I hated that road. Rather than go to JFK and take the Belt to the Southern State Parkway, I'd much rather take the GCP to the VanWyck to 495 or Northern State.

ISP is one of those smaller airports that are usually a much nice experience than their regional behemoths.

In SoCal Burbank and Long Beach are also great small airports to deal with, neither has jet ways, so you get to walk on the tarmac and enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of aviation, very Casablanca-ish. I much prefer them to LAX.

In NorCal Oakland is a good alternative to SFO, although now that SFO has Bart it's gotten pretty convenient to use, Oakland also has Bart, but you need to take a shuttle bus to get to it.

Given the choice of Islip, JFK or LGA I'd take Islip hands down. It's the closest one to your final destination AND it is a pleasure to fly in and out of there. Tried and true. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border=0>

Another vote for Islip/MacArthur. I wish there were flights there from DCA.

Islip Islip/MacArthur will be much more convenient and much closer to Deer Park than either Laguardia or JFK. The only downside is that the flights are fewer and may not be as convenient. I live on LI and don't use Islip/MacArthur because I am in closer to the other airports. JFK is great in bad weather. Never many long delays. Laguardia is terrible in bad weather. On Tuesday evening we had thunder showers and Laguardia had 4 hour delays; JFK had 15 minute delays.

The Belt Parkway is the worst highway in the country. I have travelled extensively and am yet to drive on a major highway that has a drawbridge! The Belt does!

I am going to NY too, leaving a week from tomorrow. I'll be staying on Long Island, but found that the fares on Jet Blue from SAN to JFK were cheaper than anything to the ISP. Just a thought, if you live somewhere you can take Jet Blue - it's the way to go! Our tickets were $99 non-stop from San Diego to JFK.

I fly Jet Blue often into and out of JFK. I take the airport tram to the LIRR station in Jamaica and take the train home. Very convenient and much less money than a car service.

I-280 in Ohio and I-264 in Virginia do also. All 3 roads suck.

I didn't know that. I can no longer say that about the Belt!
By the way, the Belt parkway floods so bad in rainstorms that it virtually closes down, it snakes past a former landfill in Brooklyn (we had to roll down the windows when I was a kid or we would pass out from the stench) and past a retail development near Starett City where a few bodies were uncovered during construction. Needless to say, the bodies belonged to some of J. Gotti's former associates. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif" border=0>

I wanted to thank all for you for your responses and help! I have decided to fly into ISP…because of all the ‘wisdom’ and light you shed on the airport distance being to my final destination! I am in the waiting stages with the SW site to upload for the date I need…as it only offers deals up until 10/28. Their site actually offers decent deals…though I live in Savannah, I have no issue driving to J’ville Florida for a direct flight or better savings.

Thank you again!
