There is never any checking for conventions. That is a trick in many cities to get a good rate. You try to piggyback the convention rates. In Vgeas those rates are not always that great. Usually midweek for the conventions.

Rob Thank you Rob!
Just returned from 4 night stay at PH. Paid $109 a night for a room the web site previously wanted $249 for. Nothing said at check in. Lesson learned!
Re Vegas deals. Watch out for the rip off RESORT FEE (always in small type). That is ...the weekend I just checked the Cannery is $80.00 and the Luxor is $70.00. However the Cannery is a better buy as they do not have the RIPOFF RESORT fee. 86% (according to FVL survey) of Vegas hotels now have a RESORT FEE of $$12 to $56.00. If you do not go to vegas often you might think you get something for this charge. What you get is ...ripped off. The range of extras for the resort fee is such "valuable" add-ons from A FREE DAILY NEWSPAPER (whoppee) to VOICE MAIL for your room phone. Ididnt want to break it t them that even Motel 6 takes phone messages. I think Vegas is making a big mistake charging this fee,...it really annoys folks and is nothing more than a way to hide the real price of a room.
Honestly, there are a bunch of sites that list the same promo codes that people used to gather in these threads (meaning promo codes offered directly by the hotels, not third party travel sites).
http://www.vegashotelhunt.com/las-vegas-hotel-deals is nice because you can enter your travel dates and see actual rates for each deal, That's a lot better than 1) checking each deal yourself, or 2) basing a decision off the deal's "starting at" price which is usually some outlier rate for a random Tuesday night.
