Hotel points are a tough sale, since their value tends to be fixed in a narrow range, not leaving enough juice in it for both buyer and seller to be happy. Unless you're talking about Starpoints, in which case they're really a proxy for airline miles.

They're also somewhat harder to push to third parties.

Marriott can be converted to United MilesagePlus at http://www.marriott.com/rewards/usepoints/morerew.mi (They can be transferred to many airlines, but there is 20% discount to United MileagePlus:

2,000 MileagePlus miles = 8,000 Marriott
5,000 MileagePlus miles = 16,000 Marriott
10,000 MileagePlus miles = 24,000 Marriott
25,000 MileagePlus miles = 56,000 Marriott
50,000 MileagePlus miles = 112,000 Marriott

Then sell the miles at milesp2p.com at 1.35 cents/point.

Flyertalk has a decent barter forum. Rather than sell or trade hotel points, simply book a room in the recipient's name for the best redemption value.
